Here is a summary of what Pastor David went over with the TEAM.
Youth T.E.A.M Adjectives:
“Which One? What Kind? How Many? Whose?”
The Adjectives of WRBC Youth TEAM!
1. Which One?
2. What Kind?
3. How Many?
4. Whose?
PURPOSE: To install visible, passionate, and dynamic increase in our commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ.
HOW? By laying out a clear vision for the present Youth TEAM ministry… thus affecting the future Youth TEAM ministry.
1. Which One?
-One has to always be careful to build a ministry through those who are searching and through those who are in need.
1. Those who are searching:
Teens who attend WRBC and are curious about what is taking place in the youth ministry.
Teens who attend other churches in the area, but consider our youth ministry as their (by default or by choice).
2. Those who are in need-
Teens whose families attend WRBC but do not participate on Wednesday nights, Sunday mornings, or Youth TEAM activities/events.
Teens who’s families do not attend church and who do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior.
-If you caught this, you’ll notice very carefully that our ministry cannot be built on “stealing” teens from other youth ministries in the area.
-Also, you’ll see that there is a level of commitment that comes with association. It is very difficult to see the Lord move within a ministry where teens are of the thinking, “This Wednesday or Sunday… I’m going where it appears there will be the most “fun.”‘
-So… Which one? Our desire is for you to be committed to this one!
2. What Kind?
-There is every “model” you can think of for youth ministries such as: Entertainment, Buddy, Bigger & Better, Fluff Model ( The “Games”), Humanistic, Legalistic, and Relational emphasizing on “Glory to God” and “Care for One Another”
-The kinds of ministry that “mirror” a Jesus ministry…
Jesus taught the crowds and His disciples
Jesus “hung-out” in the crowds and with His disciples, but He did not have a relationship with the crowds. Jesus did have a relationship with His disciples.
C. Our ministry must be labeled with “AUTHENTICITY.” (Acts 4:12-13)
Leaders and Teens who know Christ as their personal Savior and have been with Jesus (as seen by others).
We need to remain what the Lord desires us to be and not attempt to “morph” into something we’re not… or even worse, something that displeases the Lord.
3. How Many?
-Genuine growth is NOT always numbers!
-Numeric growth is a result of Belief, Prayer, Potential (maximized), and by God’s Desire over Ours
-Expected by the leaders… but Made genuine through YOU!
-There is a danger here… we are going to grow, we just want to grow for the right reasons.
4. Whose?
-We can never claim ownership of something that is fundamentally built on something or someone greater than ourselves.
-If our primary focus is relationships… then which relationship reflects ownership? Answer: Each of our relationships with the Lord.
-If we are a “TEAM” not a “group”… then who is the captain? The Lord Jesus Christ
“Great PowerPoint, PDT… but there is no way that can happen!”- Impossible?
God is the business of the impossible – Mark 10:27 But Jesus looked a them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.”
